The Maso Studio at The Huntington Theatre

Boston theatergoers are in for a treat this fall with Sardines (a comedy about death), the critically acclaimed one-man show written and performed by actor-comedian Chris Grace. Fresh off a celebrated run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Sardines brings a unique mix of humor, heartbreak, and humanity to The Huntington Theatre’s Maso Studio from September 30 through November 16, 2025.

About Sardines

Directed by Eric Michaud, this one-hour, no-intermission performance dives into some of life’s biggest questions:

  • Can we truly enjoy life when we know how it ends?

  • Does making art actually help us navigate grief?

  • And if Rihanna’s hit is called “Don’t Stop the Music,” why does the music… stop?

Chris Grace (best known for NBC’s Superstore and Dropout’s Chris Grace: as Scarlett Johansson) delivers a performance that is equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, blending sharp comedy with profound reflection.

From the Creators

Playwright Chris Grace:

Sardines is about family, loss, and finding your way to the present moment while accepting both the limitations and gifts of life. The first work-in-progress was presented in Boston, so it feels full-circle to bring the show back here.”

Artistic Director Loretta Greco:

“I fell in love with Sardines at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Chris explores grief alongside the joy of living with generosity, insight, and razor-sharp humor. It’s a contagious, communal evening of theatre.”
