Wanda Sykes is coming to the Boston area this fall, bringing her sharp wit and fearless comedy to the Chevalier Theatre in Medford. The Emmy-winning stand-up comic, actress, and writer has been named one of Entertainment Weekly’s “25 Funniest People in America” and continues to be one of the most powerful voices in comedy.
Wanda Sykes Comedy Career
Sykes first broke onto the scene writing and performing on HBO’s The Chris Rock Show, where she earned three Primetime Emmy nominations and won the 1999 Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special. She later went on to win additional Emmys for her work on Inside the NFL.
Her stand-up specials have been hailed as some of the best of their time. Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired debuted in 2006 and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy. Her 2009 HBO special I’ma Be Me tackled politics, motherhood, and aging, and earned two Emmy nominations. Fans also know her from her late night talk show The Wanda Sykes Show on FOX, as well as the Comedy Central favorite Wanda Does It.
On television, Sykes has appeared on shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Black-ish, and The New Adventures of Old Christine. She is also a sought-after voice actor, with roles in Ice Age: Continental Drift, Rio, and Over the Hedge.
Film and Book Success
Beyond the stage and small screen, Wanda Sykes has lit up Hollywood with memorable roles in films such as Monster-in-Law with Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, Evan Almighty with Steve Carell, and My Super Ex-Girlfriend with Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson.
